While magazines and TV chains report about the lives and love affairs of movie actors and actresses, football players and other celebrities, the Chief of the Kayapo tribe heard the worst news of his entire life:

Mrs. Dilma, the president of Brazil, has given her approval for the construction of an enormous hydroelectric central (the world’s third largest one).

This means the death sentence for ALL the tribes living at the shores of the river because the barrage will flood more or less 400 000 hectares of the forest.

More than 40 000 natives will have to find other living surroundings where they will be able to survive.

The destruction of the natural habitat, the deforestation and the disappearance of several species of plants and animals will be a fait accompli.

We know that a simple image is the equivalent of a thousand words, it shows the price to be paid for the “quality of life” of our so-called “modern comforts.”
There is no space in the world anymore for those who live differently. Everything has to be smoothed away, that everyone, in the name of globalization must lose his and her identity and way of living.

I don’t like the new Tumblr post page. I suffer from severe sight loss, and contrast is important when looking at things, such as reading letters, looking at labels or reading things on the web. I use a magnifier often, so I can quickly enlarge and read a bit of text without screwing with the page layout (Increasing text size works sometimes, but usually it just breaks everything)

With these new icons, I’m finding it too difficult to use. I cannot see the link/unlink buttons at all, and everything else is very faint. I cannot read tags once they’ve been typed in, and above this post now is a box which upon zooming in rather large says ‘upload another photo’, which I cannot read, and it’s difficult to figure out where the edge of this box is. Furthermore, the Close button at the bottom right, I can’t see the edge clearly, and often mis-click just to the side. I can press Escape now though.

I doubt the moderators or staff of Tumblr will see this, so I won’t expect them to fix anything, but if you’re part of the Tumblr modding community, please consider making something to replace these buttons and boxes to make them easier to see for those of us with a visual impairment.

Tumblr is becoming harder to use, and is ruining my enjoyment of it, and if things keep going this way of making things look trendy rather than them being functional, communicating with my friends will eventually become more of a chore than a passtime.

This is the type of complaint that is /actually real/ and worthwhile to maybe fix for those who need it…

This is one of the best posts I’ve seen on the subject of the new update, and the subject I was referring to when I made that lazy snark about accessibility the other night. Social media is terrible when it comes to accessibility, and tumblr has just been getting worse and worse. More to the point, the creators and developers have been showing again and again that they really don’t give even the slightest fuck about their disabled users, which considering how vital said services are/can be for pwd is nothing short of infuriating.

I just want the entire Tarrlok/Amon story line to die because it ended up sucking. Also I didn’t like her braids so that’s my shallow reason for not wanting to see her again.

You’re brilliant Ari. This is exactly what was wrong with Naotak/Tarlock’s story. And what broke the camel’s back for me. The way it was delivered just sucked so bad I can’t even fathom why anyone in the field of visual arts would have chosen to portray it that way. It has no flow, the story just stops and you are forced to listen to a freaking narrated history lesson. The whole infiltrating air temple island plot was worthless because it achieved nothing apart from having Tarlock spout exposition for 12 minutes. Why did Korra need to know anyway? Her ‘expose him for the bloodbender he is’ idea was stupid and didn’t work. She was planning to attack heads on before anyway and that’s what she ended up doing in the end. It’s like you could have just cut it all and lost nothing. UGH

Just imagine this. Korra breaks her air block and produces air. The air punches knock Amon trough the wall, breaking the mask. As Amon falls we hear two children having a conversation “So what do you want to do when you grow up?” “I don’t know exactly what, but I want to help people, like… make sure everyone is treated equally and stuff.” “That’s so cool! You’d be just like the Avatar!” Cut to Tarlock and Noatak as children, playing with water bending. Their father is smirking at the background, he calls them up and briefly explains who he actually is. Shots of the kids looking anxious and the father reassuring them. Training montage, kids are unhappy. Then bloodbending, things get worse. Noatak snaps bloodbends his father and leaves. Last exchange between the kids. Then a transitioning shot between young scared Tarlock looking his brother off and a sad and weary Tarlock in a cell. Cut to Amon hitting the water and makeup running off his face. THERE. >:( I did it for them. And I’m not saying that what I’ve written is anything good, but come on, anything’s better than having it baby-spoonfed to you.

Ugh, sorry for the word vomit but really I can excuse lots of things in LOK. Episode 5? I can excuse it. Pro-bending not being that interesting? I can excuse it. The love pentagon? I can excuse it. Telling us, but not showing it? In a freaking animated flashback that you’re spending half an episode on?? Nope nope nope nope nope.

This is dedicated to every single person who has ideas, opinions, views, etc. that are considered old fashioned. ♥

This describes me.

I don’t know, I’m pretty jazzed I was born in a generation that’s more forward-thinking, tolerant, open-minded, and progressive than any before it.* This generation certainly has problems that older ones didn’t; I’m not denying that at all. But here are just a few reasons I’m glad I was born in this era:

-Information is generally more readily available than ever before.
-This one can depend heavily on where you live, but health care is more accessible/affordable than ever. For example, women have better chances of surviving childbirth, and birth control methods exist today that didn’t before.
-As time goes on, more social justice issues are being brought to the foreground.

Unfortunately, this list is NOT universal; it doesn’t apply to everyone living today. But I’m one of those people who thinks the future has an endless potential for getting better, so it’s my hope that someday it will.

*this is based on my personal knowledge/experiences as a twenty-something living in the Midwestern part of North America…I am definitely not an anthropologist, sociologist, historian or even a politician, so it’s pretty possible I could be full of shit :)
